For years you've been watching your tongue so that what you say doesn't end up here. Now, you'll have to watch how you look. You never know who has a camera.
This is patently unfunny...I was on the side of Cedar street when this accident happened, and ended up helping to hold one of the girls who was partially dragged under the bus still until the paramedics arrived. Poor taste, Overheard in Athens.
We had a bus that was over 18 years old and it was one of the best buses on the yard. The buses have an overall inspection every 21 days in the shop. Considering how long campus transit has been running and so few incidences have happened due to mechanical failure, I'd say the current system is running properly. And don't blame us cause you can't get to class on time.
This is beyond patently unfunny. It's completely inappropriate. These buses are inspected thoroughly before they go out EVERY DAY. Beyond that, this is serious, and I'll defend my colleagues whenever they need it, even to the death. FOR THE LAST TIME, SHUT UP AND STOP TRYING TO PLACE BLAME FOR THIS INCIDENT.
What about the idiot students who have never ridden public transportation before and don't hold onto anything as well as don't realize those doors aren't made to retain the weight of a person (or 25) pushed against the door...
I was riding that bus and standing next to the girls who fell off. Orbits are ALWAYS packed out especially by biology. It wasn't necessarily the bus driver's fault, however if he had stopped a little sooner and had initially let some people off to help the girls that would have been awesome, and it wasn't the girls' faults either. There was nothing atypical about that bus ride until the doors opened...freak accident.
But I agree...COMPLETELY UNfunny! And they were probably holding on to something, but when the driver went around a slight bend EVERYONE on the bus shifted to the right. Those of us by that door had already let two other Orbits pass while we were waiting to catch a bus because they were too packed.
UGA either needs to suck up the money loss and increase the amount of buses in transport during the day or professors need to not be so picky about people who arrive a few minutes late.
To the death? Using such an overstatement makes your whole argument dramatic instead of credible. Of course no one should throw blame around, partially because pointing fingers does little to resolve such problems after they happen (including your finger pointing, Watts). In reality, the blame probably lies divided between the driver, the riders, and the bus (I doubt they are inspected THOROUGHLY everyday, a superficial inspection at best). So shut up and stop making an incident where people got hurt into an over-argued OIA showdown.
By the way the stairs say do not stand in stairwell so it was there choice to stand there. We are required by law to make a thorough inspection every morning and there are supervisors on the yard making sure it is done. Try getting your CDL and see how you do.
