For once I gotta defend the girls. If you're not a math person, there really isn't a reason to know about e. Now if these girls didn't know Pi, or were math majors and didn't know about e, I'd be more concerned.

I think the problem is that some people don't realize e is actually a mathematical concept. I think some people really just assume the girls are absolutely moronic. Which proves that the hateful posters don't understand the concept of "e" either.

With all seriousness, if you're gonna comment on a site that is well known for anonymously referring to the words of random people as dumb ("the classic city speaks... unfortunately", "Filed Under Dumbass") you could at least not be dumb yourself. Many of the comments I've seen on OIA are the most hypocritical comments ever. "E is not a number"? Seriously, people. E is one of the basic concepts in calculus, something which practically all college students should have at least some knowledge of. "Ok...I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no excuse for being in college and thinking E is a number. Really? No." is the most ignorant comment I've ever seen on OIA. Just get the fuck off this site.

My friend, Girl 1, was confused because she didn't know e was a constant number. We just thought it was a concept, like a constant equation that dealt with logarithms. We weren't so slow as to assume the letter e was a number, we knew that. Also I never said most of that second line!!! You fail at overhearing.

These are actually pretty smart girls. I've known both of them forever. There are always going be concepts that are new to people, that's what college is for, so they can learn about them. Whoever posted this.. you obviously don't have any friends to talk to which is why you're eavesdropping on other people's conversations.. and two.. just straight up get a life man.

I agree with her.. College is for learning things. And one of the girls even said on the comments that her statement was said the wrong way.. If it were my friends who were being labeled under "dumbasses" then I would respond by telling the person posting it to get a life too. And so would you, anonymous.

In response to anonymous.. I actually don't even go to this school so I had no idea this was even anonymous..I just followed the link on one of the girl's facebooks.. And my "panties" as you so intelligently put it are not in a wad over it, I already realize it's insignificant, I just thought it was a little harsh for some random person to be criticizing their intelligence on this subject for everyone to see. So I threw in my two cents on the matter. And I did notice others were defending them as well, in case YOU didn't notice, my comment was directed to the guy that wrote the bulletin in the first place. Taking a simple conversation by two girls and putting it online, calling them dumbasses, seemed mean to me. I guess if it's anonymous then it's not as big of a deal.

let me start off by saying this is ridiculous. i have math 1101 in boyd- obviously i am NOT a math major, such as the poster... a "concerned math major"

i happen to be a romance language major. i'm terrible at math; i have had terrible teachers. none of them have EVER explained what e exactly was, so i have always been lost on this whole e, ln, log thing. to file me under dumbass for something so trivial.. for something i'm not even studying.. is ridiculous. so quit sitting there like a mathematical jerk, elitist ho-humming at my apparent stupidity for not knowing something pertaining to YOUR major.

I think every one has overreacted a bit over this. What the FIRST anonymous seemed to be saying, was that getting put on here isn't such a huge deal. Although I might not have used the phrase "getting your panties in a wad" to say get over it...

My friends and I have been put on here several times. And yes, we do say stupid stuff, but a lot of times it has been taken out of context, and changed a bit, just like this quote and like most of the quotes on here. We are usually big enough to admit that, referring to anonymous number TWO. So you get labeled a dumbass, like we all haven't had a blond moment (no offense blonds out there, just an expression) big deal, move on.

Mary's right. No need to freak out.

So to Girl 1, 2, and all other affiliates: at this point, no one is criticizing you! We agree with you! We've BEEN agreeing with you. The people who were calling you dumb have moved on, as should all of us.

Am I the only one who thinks this whole episode terribly sad? Everyone's gotta be right, cause God forbid that someone be WRONG on the internet!
Now some incredibly clever person is going to point out the hypocrisy of me submitting my two cents. It's more of a "grow up, there are more important things to worry about" thank you. Have fun, idiots.
