too bad the president-elect doesnt give any intelligence to you. in fact, he will strip you of your intelligence and force you to give it to some drug addict middle school drop out so that we can all be equal. but this isn't a political forum and that is neither here nor there.

Well to start off, relax. Its just a joke about the most basic of Democratic vs. Republican beliefs. The democratic belief would be that we have a responsiblity to help each other (i.e. Social Securit, unemployment (collective funds i.e. sharing)) while the Republican idea is more along the lines that the government is around to protect the nation and interefere very little in business (i.e. low taxes and regulations).

Its a terrible argument. If they've done well for themselves, then a slight tax increase wont affect them anyway.. My dad's business is over the cutoff for the tax increase.. You don't see me whining. OH NO, you may not get your new Gucci flip flops or that sweet new pair of Croakies as quick as last year. Get over it.

Why dont read the policy? It would not be just a "slight tax increase." If you work hard and do well for yourself then you should not be forced to support those who have not. You have more opportunity here in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world, if you choose not to do that for yourself others should not have to bear the cost. You keep fighting for your "change" and I will got get my "sweet new pair of Croakies!"

Would you like to enjoy social security when you're older? I'm sure some of your elderly relatives need it to get by.. The tax increase isn't simply going to help people 'buy their new Nikes'. Its going to be used in other areas that everyone takes advantage of, regardless of wealth.. And God forbid you ever need Unemployment, or any other government programs. You may just find yourself re-evaluating your position. We all weren't given a silver spoon to eat out of. I'm spoiled as hell and I can still see that there are legitimate families in our country right now that just need a little help for a small time to get by.

Thank you for communicating this much better than I've heard anyone else do. No one is going to be made rich or poor by Obama's tax plan. Fear mongering is fun though, eh?

Go to the unemployment office sometime. The people there are not trying to get help for a "small time". They are actively trying to stay on unemployment, WIC, EBT, and welfare as long as they can... Know why? "Who WOULDN'T want free money". They don't have a tax burden. That means, kiddies, that EVERYONE who does have a tax burden supports them. Add an additional tax credit on top of what they are already GIVEN, and that money has to come from somewhere. (Here is a hint: The middle to upper class, ironically the same people who are going to be screwed by the Change-bringers new tax policies)

Jeremy, go be unemployed sometime, with 3 kids and tell me how much you want to stay there.

I don't know how much money you think these people get, but I do know the reality is way less than that...

Yes, actually, it will be slight. It won't compare to what our taxes were 8 years ago under Clinton, the only time our national budget was balanced! Raising taxes slightly for people who make enough money not to notice is what is best for our nation's economy as a whole, and I realllly doubt your parents make over $250,000 anyways. There is a reason that official studies show that people with higher IQ's vote democrat. Maybe you should learn to quit bitching, and actually care about people other than yourself for once, and, if you love the country you live in that gives you more freedom than just about any other country in the world, what is best for our country as a whole, and what will make us stronger and continue to prevail in the 21st century.

I don't know that it's fair to say that person was being selfish or unpatriotic. Don't be too close-minded. I know what you're saying, but at the same time, you have to understand that being conservative doesn't necessarily make someone an uncaring, unpatriotic person who wants to see their fellow citizens fail. A lot of my good friends happen to be Republican, and I hear what they have to say. All I'm saying is...you don't know this person. For all we know, they could go on to work for a nonprofit, charitable organization or something.

anybody that owns a small business probably makes over $250,000 a year, even though they don't get to pocket all that money. that's because the government counts their business's earning as personal, and taxes them on that amount. so if you raise taxes on the upper middle class (many of whom are small business owners), they have to make cuts elsewhere, which may mean not hiring new employees, or even firing old ones. since the economy is shit right now, increasing the national unemployment rate isn't such a hot idea. don't get me wrong, i'm all for helping people that need help. but raising taxes during an economic crisis is perhaps not the best idea.

that's not to say that i love sarah palin or that i think john mccain's policies are the best. i mean, which is the lesser of two evils - a junior senator with limited political experience, or an off-the-cuff "maverick" with a short temper?

so to wrap things up, if ya'll are gonna get on some internet forum and talk politics, do some research before you go spouting off.

So you're saying that people who make a fair amount of money have so much money they wouldn't notice if FORTY PERCENT never made it to them? My dad gets to keep about 60% of what he gets paid. The reason its hard to understand why all the money would be taken is because he works his ass off all year long so his kids can have relative comfort and get an education while other people have learned to leech off the federal and state government. Why is it his responsiblity to care for other people at all? Nobody gave him anything that got him where he is. His dad was a poor farmer. Why is the responsiblity of the rich to care for other people? Its not. If out of the compassion of their heart, they choose to donate to charities (a majority of charitable donations are made by the wealthy) then fantastic. But they should not be required to care for people they have no relation to. Also, i think its a shitty idea that Im gonna pay my whole life into Social Security. Guess whats gonna happen when it comes time for me to collect off of the money I've given to the governmnet? IT WONT EXIST. It got sent to somebody else who didn't go to school for 19 years and then work a lifetime to get it.

"Raising taxes slightly for people who make enough money not to notice is what is best for our nation's economy as a whole." The issue with this that most Republican's I know have is being forced to do so by the govt. Instead of FORCING people who are well off to take care of the poor, they should be encouraged to help. I promise you'd get a better response out of people than you think. If I'm ever lucky enough to make that kind of money, I won't want the govt to take it from me. I will do my best to give back but it will be my own decision...not the govt's. Instead of spending millions to billions of dollars bailing out companies and supporting bogus programs, spend the money on marketing volunteer work and giving back to the community.

Yes, because everyone has/had the same opportunities and resources that you have/had. Goddamn, you are ignorant. All of the poor people are just lazy and not hard workers. All they want to do is buy some spinners for their car. ::rolls eyes:: Read some sociology. We are not living in a fantasy world. America has THE worst wealth disparities of every first world country and it has nothing to do with laziness. Did you know some people went to worst schools than you and received NO support or encouragement from their teachers? Did you know that some people cannot afford a college education? Did you know that some people work harder than you'll ever work in your life and they make almost no money? Don't believe the myths. Our society has problems. There is no reason to blame the poor people who are trying to make a living. Quit being so damn greedy and selfish. Even Oprah helps people and she has a ton of money.

evenly raising taxes on everyone will not make a big impact on the poor, just like the tax increase on the wealthy won't make a big impact based on their income. it's not like they're saying you should NOT take money from the wealthy..it's just that..the top 2% of people shouldn't be paying around 70% of the total taxes. that's taking advantage of someone's well-earned money. i don't know..i always hear this anyway, i'm trying to see both sides of this argument.

also, why would anyone suggest not taking money from the wealthy but instead taking all of it from the poor people? i think you misinterpreted what was said.

oh yeah it would be unchristianlike and evil to raise cut the tax back to 39 from 36% on those making more than 250k so people like my parents who have worked for 20 some odd years as hard as possible for more than 60 hrs a week just to barely survive can get a small tax cut, i mean Jesus would strike people dead before he allows that to happen, Bible clearly states: "keep your own damn money, Jesus isn't for everyone, if you work hard and still barely survive go fuck yourself, true Christians vote Republican Bitch".
